The 2009 DSM Shootout
Every year a group of individuals get together and spend some quality time at the drag strip to show their support for their favorite platform, the DSM. This year posed quite a few hurdles to jump but at the end of the day, all went well.
The primary hurdle is that a group of people decided they didn’t like the event as it was and that there needed to be a second event on the same weekend in another city. This is ridiculous in the sense that all these actions do is tear apart the community. The majority of the people that will attend will just be watching, the crowds will follow the faster cars. If the cars are split between two cities, the crowds are smaller at both events. This was done purely in spite of the original founder of this event. The whole situation is very childish to say the least.
Even with that hurdle to overcome, this years shootout was a blasting success. There were a lot of cars and a lot of familiar faces at the REAL DSM Shootout in Norwalk, OH. There were quite a few fast runs and quite a few breakdowns. The weather was awesome and the cops were more lenient than previous years on hotel stupidity. The hotel shenanigans didn’t get too out of hand either. This year was one of the best years I think we have had in a long time, despite the lower attendance due to the competing event. Perhaps though, the competing event removed the trouble maker aspect from our event as all the crowd that wanted to get out of hand went elsewhere.
Who knows what the future holds for the DSM Shootout. Next years event has already been scheduled. I will be attending again, as I have for the last 7 years. Here are pictures from the event that I have stolen from various sources. Enjoy and hope to see you next year!
